Luis Montaner - Personalities and collaboration in science 

Do you know how you impact a team? Prof. Luis Montaner leads a HIV-1 immunopathogenesis laboratory and is vice-president of the Wistar Institute (USA). He will discuss becoming aware of our own personality, dealing with different personalities, communication strategies, & managing emotional intelligence to develop successful collaborations.

Science snippets from VIB Postdocs!

To spread the word about their current research, and to foster inter-centre collaborations, we enjoyed TED-talk style presentations from the following postdocs:

CJ Anderson (VIB-UGent IRC), Helena Aegarter (VIB-UGent IRC), Marlies Vanden Bempt (VIB-KUL CCB), Alex Neumann (VIB-UAntwerp CMN), Balkan Canher (VIB-UGent PSB), Joy Ismail (VIB-KUL CBD), Barbara De Meester (VIB-UGent PSB), Carles Calatayud Aristoy (VIB-KUL CBD).

VIB alumnus Dr. Lieven Haenebalcke, who is currently start-up lead of lab operations regarding the COVID19 vaccine at Pfizer. He presented the company, his career switch from VIB to Pfizer, his current job and department and potential job opportunities at Pfizer. There was also an opportunity for a Q&A session during the event.

Find out at our virtual career event featuring VIB alumni from the VIB-UGhent Center for Plant Systems Biology. The speaker line-up includes alumni that went into VIB spin-offs, have a position in R&D companies or moved to a job in regulatory affairs or consultancy. 

Join us and learn how they experienced their transition and what their current job entails.

Although PostDoc Day 2020 was unfortunately canceled, we replaced this event with a series of webinars organized during the month of October, which we called OCTOBINARS.  

The Octobinars gathered speakers from diverse sectors in life sciences, ranging from experts in scientific integrity, VIB alumni turned recruiter, journal editors or experts in scientific communication. 

The invited speakers comprised Elisabeth Bik from Microbiomdigest, Mouna Guerfal from Science support, Rituparna Chakrabarti from iScience, Cell group and Ulrike Hartjes from Nature Reviews Cancer. The workshops were presented by PI life sciences, Elevate Scientific and Sommersault 18:24.
